The Helmholtz International Center for FAIR (HIC for FAIR) constitutes a unique think tank for forefront interdisciplinary theoretical and experimental research associated with the international large-scale Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research. FAIR is the new planned accelerator facility at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung GmbH at Darmstadt.

HIC for FAIR is a joint research center of the Hessian Universities Frankfurt, Darmstadt and Gießen, the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies (FIAS), the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung GmbH and the Helmholtz Association. It has been established within the framework of the Hessian initiative for scientific and economic excellence (LOEWE) in July 2008.

Our strategic goals are to:

• Strengthen and focus research on the FAIR project at Hessian universities
• Create optimal conditions for research in the field of strongly interacting matter (QCD matter)
• Develop state-of-the-art technology in the fields of
  • particle acceleration
  • high-speed pattern recognition
  • high-performance computing for the simulation of strongly interacting matter
  • data analysis

How we will achieve these goals:

• Implementation of a guest scientist program
• Education of excellent national and international PhD students
• Construction of high-performance computing facilities
• Recruitment of internationally renowned scientists for full professorships
• Active advancement of women and families
