New J. Phys. 3 (May 2001) 8:

qMD simulation of S+Au collisions at 200 GeV/N

The MPEG-Movies

visualize the results of a qMD simulation of the expansion and following hadronization of the fireball created in a S+Au heavy ion collision at 200 GeV/N (CERN-SPS)

The movie s200au_e00_side.mpg shows the time evolution of a collision in the plane of the beam axis (horizontal axis) and the impact parameter axis (vertical axis).

The movie s200au_e00_axis.mpg shows the same event as seen by an observer on the beam axis (the horizontal axis in this movie is the impact parameter axis). This second movie shows nicely the wobbling motion of the quarks and antiquarks (coloured spheres) forming clusters of two or three (carrying colour and anti-colour or three different colours, respectively) which are then considered as hadrons (grey spheres).

The third movie s200au_e01_side.mpg just shows the time evolution of another event in the plane of the beam axis and the impact parameter axis.

The visualization does not take into account the Lampa-Terrell-Penrose effect, so the Lorentz contracted nuclei are shown as ellipsoids, not as rotated spheres.
