What critical endpoint? The Lifshitz regime in QCD

Robert Pisarski (Brookhaven National Laboratory)

I discuss an alternate form of the phase diagram in QCD: instead of a critical endpoint, there is a line of first order transitions to a regime with spatially inhomogenous phases.  The relation to examples such as inhomogeneous polymers is also discussed.
